What tires do you ride?

#1 Postby Willbilly » Wed May 25, 2016 8:27 pm

And what durability ex. Soft/medium/hard.

I am new to the Virginia area (from rocky PA) and the soil seams generally really soft. I am considering running soft tires. Is this a mistake?

I usually run soft tires, Michelin s12 to be exact. This year I'm trying the new Michelin starcross 5 medium and so far I like them. Hopefully get a little more wear out of them. The s12 would tear up after 4 races and a couple weekends of riding the trail at my house.

Bridgestone M59 front and a Pirelli xcms rear. Been running the front almost ahead and it has never left me guessing. Just out a new rear on for this weekend but it was way overdue.

Many of our events, you should use a more intermediate tire but most just use a soft terrain tire everywhere. For the dry events in the middle of the state or out west, I use a hybrid tire, knobs like a trials tire but with actual knobs. For the eastern events or a muddy event, a soft terrain tire all the way. For me, the MotoZ Tractionator Enduro S/T is my go to tire. I have been experimenting with their Arena Hybrid tire which has the same tread pattern but softer knobs to grip on more intermediate terrain. I ran a Shinko 505 "Cheater" tire at Sandy Bottom and it was perfect.

Ted, any more to add on the Arena hybrid rear? Considering Motoz this season with Tubliss.

That is the tire that stays on my bike until we hit a dry, hard pack area like Martinsville. The Arena Hybrid has a tread pattern like the Tractionator Enduro, an awesome tire, mixed with a different rubber compound. Really like the Arena Hybrid.
